Light-blue Layers
This tapestry was so fun to make, and was the first time I experimented with layers by cutting away instead of adding more on top. First, I crocheted with second hand brown yarn to create the texture of the core of a banksia. Then, I got those gorgeous red stripes from a pair of pants that were fraying and irreparable. For the green leaves, I cut away the shape of the banksia, except for where I wanted leaves to be. On the very top, the whole shape of both flowers and leaves was cut out of the blue fabric. Lastly, I used some fabric bias tape for a neat, pale green edge. The bias tape, green fabric and blue fabric are all from Reverse Garbage! So, every material in this tapestry was headed to landfil until someone stepped in.
